FAQs/Disclaimer
1. Are your products 100% organic?
We aim to use mostly USDA-certified organic butters and oils, and when available we choose sustainable and fair trade options. There are, however, some ingredients that are not available as organic (such as clays) or too cost prohibitive when organic (such as essential oils). However, all of our ingredients are always natural (with the exception of sodium hydroxide) and Earth friendly. As part of our commitment to curate the best ingredients for you and the planet, we will continue to source as many organic ingredients as possible.
2. What is sodium hydroxide?
Sodium hydroxide is commonly known as lye, and although sounds like a scary chemical, it is necessary to make soap. To ensure that our soaps are safe, we superfat our recipes and and test all of our batches before selling them to you.
3. What does superfatting mean?
There is a very specific number of oils and butter molecules a given amount of sodium hydroxide can saponify (turn into soap). When there is more molecules of oils and butters then sodium hydroxide can saponify, you have superfat. The left over oils and butters can bring their goodness to your skin, unaltered by sodium hydroxide.
4. Why is my current order different (size, shape, color, smell) than the last time?
All of our products are hand made in small batches and natural which will result in batch to batch differences. Sometimes these differences are due to the variations in the materials we receive from our vendors, or the spur of the moment inspiration during production. No matter the differences, rest assured you have received a high quality, small batch, handmade, plant-based, cruelty-free and natural product.
5. Do you do custom orders?
Please email us at info@plantcurations.com
6. Are your glass containers and packaging recyclable?
All of our packaging materials are recyclable, including the soap sleeves, tissue paper, kraft paper, care cards, cardboard shreds, crinkle paper, stickers, shipping boxes, glass containers and packing tape. All printed materials are printed using vegetable-based inks and the gloss prints are made from non-toxic water-based aqueous coating.
All brown materials including crinkle paper, tissue paper, kraft paper, shipping box, and shipping tape are compostable. Additionally, biodegradable packing peanuts can be composted or dissolved in water.
We will occasionally reuse packing materials we receive from our vendors as packing material in your order. We encourage you to repurpose our glass containers for your own use, please sanitize and dry thoroughly before doing so. Please consider recycling and or composting materials to preserve our beautiful planet.
7. How to best care for my soap?
The best way to store your soap is in a cool dry place protected from light. Avoid constant streams of water to prevent soap from shrinking too quickly. In between showers, store soap on a dish that allows drainage.
8. How should I use my body butter?
Our body butters do not contain any preservatives; for best use, scoop butter out with clean sanitized utensil and avoid getting water into the body butter. Warm butter with fingers or palms before applying to body and hands. The better you care for your body butter, the longer it will last. If you receive our body butters slightly melted or melted, give the jar a quick shake and allow the butter to solidify. In addition, melted body butters can be placed in the fridge for 30 minutes to solidify. Contents will still contain all the nourishing ingredients that your skin loves.
9. What is that white ashy film on top of my soap bar?
The white ashy film also known as soda ash is a natural reaction that occurs during cold process soap making. Soda ash is harmless and does not effect the quality of the soap.
10. I see running colors when I shower/bathe, is this normal?
Since we use all natural colorants such as clay, herbs, superfoods, and charcoal, you may experience some colors running as you shower (especially with our Supercharged Charcoal Detox). The natural colorants are completely safe, just make sure you wash off thoroughly to avoid any potential staining on clothes.
11. Besides using eco-friendly packaging, what else are you doing to be more green?
As part of our commitment to being an earth friendly company, a portion of the proceeds from each order are applied to offset the carbon emissions generated to ship the order. We do this by partnering with Shopify through their Planet program. Our goal is to use as many eco-friendly materials as possible while minimizing plastic.
